Changing culture: workflow and content
Reports of Content Workflow 2010 by Penny Crossland (http://digbig.com/5bbady and http://digbig.com/5bbadx ) have had me nodding from the sideline this week. I worked as an information professional in the STM sector, namely as a Clinical Effectiveness Librarian for a large NHS Trust, and content and workflow issues were always on my mind. My job quite simply - to facilitate and enable decision making and change by fumsi (find, use, manage, share information).

Workflows - the issue of 'integgregation'
Yesterday's Content Workflow 2010 event in Frankfurt (http://www.contentworkflow.eu/) was organised by Reprints Desk (http://www2.reprintsdesk.com/), a relatively new company in the document delivery arena. Four speakers, representing end-users and providers of solutions sought to address the important issue of how to integrate STM content into the workflow of information professionals and to explore the implications for copyright compliance. The capacity audience was largely made up of representatives from pharmaceutical companies and was there to hear about how to distribute vital information while ensuring copyright compliance.

A current white paper from ‘Reprints Desk, Inc, ‘Relieving information centre budget pressures through document delivery cost reduction and workflow re-configuration’, doesn’t exactly slip off the tongue easily. However it does spell out the overall message and statistics rather well. See http://digbig.com/5baxsf

Copyrighted content provider lines up new customers and publishers
Although the Internet has made published content vastly more accessible and usable, there is still the not-so-small matter of obtaining reprint rights and dealing with the variety of contractural terms that publishers might impose. On the publisher side, access to the market is constrained by having a network that can tap into archived published material. Enter Derycz Scientific (Santa Monica, CA), which has been working for several years on software and services to streamline the process of obtaining copyrighted material, and the permissions needed to redistribute it, either electronically or on paper

Speeding the Path to Regulatory Approval in the Era of Electronic Submissions
Newswise -- When a pharmaceutical company wants its new drug on the market, it must first submit mountains of paperwork to regulatory agencies like the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA)—most of it scientific articles describing the drug’s properties. Gathering these articles can be time-consuming, expensive and downright exhausting. And if the company opts to submit them all electronically, there’s another hurdle to clear: the regulatory agency wants all articles in the electronic Common Technical Document (eCTD) format. What’s an overworked pharma company staffer to do? Answer: turn to a dedicated professional document service for help. Such a service can speed the drug approval process and help companies save time and money
